Giving Puppies the Best Start: Why We Use Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS)

start in life—mentally, emotionally, and physically. That’s why we include Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) in our program for every single litter.

What is ENS?

ENS is a series of gentle, hands-on exercises developed years ago by the U.S. military to help puppies become healthier, more resilient dogs. We start these exercises when puppies are just a few days old—between 3 and 16 days of age—because this is a special window when their brains and nervous systems are developing rapidly.

Each session is very quick (just a few seconds for each exercise!) and includes things like:

• Holding the puppy in different positions (upright, head-down, on their back)

• Gently tickling the bottom of their paws with a cotton swab

• Briefly placing them on a cool surface

It may sound simple, but these little experiences make a big difference as the puppies grow.

Research and experience show that puppies who go through ENS tend to:

• Develop stronger immune systems

• Handle stress and new experiences more calmly

• Grow into confident, adaptable companions
